Florida: Sarasota School Board repeals mask mandate
October 6, 2021 | Ryan McKinnon| Sarasota Herald-Tribune |
“The Sarasota County School Board voted to repeal its mask mandate on Tuesday evening.
In August, the board had imposed a policy making masks mandatory until the county’s single-day COVID-19 positivity rate fell below 8% for three consecutive days.
The district hit that metric last week, so masks have been optional since Sept. 27. But the policy remained in place that would make masks mandatory once more if the positivity rate ever surpassed 10% for a single day.
Superintendent Brennan Asplen urged the board to repeal the policy because he said it “has fulfilled its purpose,” and keeping the rule in place risked further ongoing legal battles with the state.”
