Researchers affiliated with the University of Maryland College Park, College Park, United States, analyzed aerosol effects related to lightning and reported findings in their 2021 paper titled, “Detection of the Aerosol Effect on Lightning based on Ground and Satellite Measurements over the Southern Great Plains during Summer.”
The study states: “Aerosols serve as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). Thus, increases in aerosol loading create more but smaller cloud droplets that can rise to higher altitudes, leading to suppression of warm rain and invigoration of deep convection. As a consequence, increases in aerosols may induce/enhance lightning, a characteristic of the aerosol effect on a deep convective cloud system.”
A related study titled, “Distinct aerosol effects on cloud-to-ground lightning in the plateau and basin regions of Sichuan, Southwest China,” reported similarly on the effect of aerosol suppressing rain as well as acknowledging that “Sulfate aerosols are found to be more strongly associated with lightning.”
A 2005 article titled, U.S. Military wants to own the weather, stated: “…nanotechnology could be utilized to create clouds of tiny smart particles. Atmospherically buoyant, these ultra-small computer particles could navigate themselves to block optical sensors. Alternatively, they might be used to provide an atmospheric electrical potential difference — a way to precisely aim and time lightning strikes over the enemy’s head – thereby concoct thunderbolts on demand.”
With these findings in mind, the correlation of U.S. Congressional SRM programs as pertaining to “spraying sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere,” and increased fire activity is relevant and important.
Safety regulations prohibiting hazardous emissions deployments are critical since these activities may be utilized as weapons.
